It is an organic compound with the chemical formula Na5p3o10. It is an amorphous form of water-soluble linear phosphate. Two types are possible for sodium tripolyphosphate. Type I is the high-temperature version and type II is the low-temperature variant. It is their differing bond lengths or bond angles that make the difference. Both have similar chemical properties but their thermal stability, hygroscopicity and thermostability are greater than those of type II.

Tripotassium tripolyphosphate functions as a chelator, suspension, gelling agent, pH buffering, gelling agent, dyeing additives, organic synthesis catalyst, dyeing agents, dyeing additives, dyeing and food additives. It’s a useful additive for industrial water softener (synthetic detergent), dyeing additives (tanner prepanning agent), industrial dispersant (industrial dispersant) and other food additives.
