Silver Carbide – What is This Substance?

Posted on 2023-01-20 By admin

Silver Carbide is a pure carbon substance that is used in a variety of applications. It is abrasive, durable and has low thermal expansion. The product can be manufactured in various forms. From high purity, submicron powder to custom shapes, there is a product to fit your needs.

If you are looking for more information on the various grades of this substance, American Elements has you covered. They have MSDS information, technical data, and testing standards. In addition, they offer custom packaging and can produce pharmaceutical grade.

When prepared as a solid, AgzCaAgNOs is a very strong explosive. Its detonation velocity is up to 1200 m/s. During heating, it emits irritating fumes and acrid smoke.

AgzCaAgNOs is not soluble in water, so if you do not want to dispose of this substance down your drain, do not flush it. Instead, put it in an amber bottle and keep it in a dark room. Alternatively, bring it to a waste processing facility for proper disposal.

There are three broad classifications of carbide, based on its structural characteristics. Generally, nonmetals that have similar electronegativity to carbon form covalent carbides, while most electropositive metals form ionic carbides. However, the most stable transition metal carbide is silver acetylide.

Silver nitrate is a source of silver ions, and it also serves as an absorbent for olefines. While silver nitrate is relatively safe, it has been avoided commercially for absorption of olefines from coal gas. Using a weak solution of silver nitrate can be dangerous because it increases the solubility of the explosive silver acetylide.
