Iron oxide (II,III) Fe3O4

This iron is highly insoluble and stable and can be used to make glass and other optical or ceramic materials. Oxide doesn’t conduct electricity. Schikorr reactions produce Fe3O4. This reacts iron (II), hydroxylide (FeOH)2 into iron oxide (II and III (Fe3O4). Anaerobic conditions cause ferrous hydroxide(Fe(OH),2) to react in water and oxidize into magnetite or molecular oxygen. Schikorr’s reaction describes this process.
